(More customer reviews)I bought this chair for just over $130. Amazon.com boasted a $170 discount from the $300 retail price so I thought it was a good deal. But this is not a $300 chair.
During assembly I found 3 defects. 1.) One of the screw holes had a blockage halfway in the cylinder. My electric screw driver couldn't get through it, and I had to use a manual one and brute force to push through the blockage so the screw could seat itself as intended, otherwise it would have been sticking out. That itself took about 30 minutes. 2.) Right out of the bag, the back part of the chair had threads and fabric hanging out from the bottom part that I had to push back inside. Which isn't really a big deal since it was going to be mashed against the lower part of the chair and hidden after assembly. 3.) One of the arm pieces had a washer missing from a screw hole, and this WAS a big deal. The washer was supposed to be mounted inside (like the other 7 holes). There wasn't one, making the hole useless and meaning the left arm is only attached with 1 screw to the base of the chair.
The chair itself is very sturdy. I'm a big guy, and it feels perfectly safe. No squeaks, no rocking, completely solid. Also very heavy. You can feel the quality of the chair. The tension setting for the recliner tightens and loosens significantly (to your preference). I mention that because 'out of the box' it is very loose and you can practically fall backwards if you're not expecting it.
It's comfortable for extended use. As mentioned, I'm a big guy, but I have no problems sitting in it comfortably. Some people might worry about the mid-back vs. a high back chair. I'm 6-feet tall I can't really tell the difference. This chair replaced a high-back chair, but it's just as comfortable in my opinion. It has a more open feel and I see over my shoulder for a change.
The fabric of the chair and over the armrest feels great. It's soft, and I'm assuming easily cleanable. The arms are cushioned adequately, and the chair itself is heavily cushioned. The controls underneath to raise/lower it are easily accessible with large handle that can't be missed. The height variety available should be adequate for anyone.
If I needed a similar chair again, I'd buy another other. Despite the frustrating assembly, it IS a good chair. $130 is a good price, as well. I'd put a retail value closer to $180 though. $300 seems way too high. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars was because of the defects. Your luck may vary.
